Sugar is not collaborating locally on a wired network

Description

I have two computers both booted to Sugar on my home network.
If I take out the Jabber server name in My Settings I expect them to disconnect from the Jabber server but see each other.

Actual Results: Neither computer see's anyone else in the neighborhood.

Ok I just tested where two computers were connected to the same physical netgear hub. They do see each other.

Should it work over any arbitrary local network? What will cause it to work or not work. Having collaboration just work in a computer lab would be sweet.

Don't think there's much hope. Perhaps we can inspire on Apple about how best to communicate this, Bonjour is based on the same technology as Salut:

I dont; think this is something to be worked on right now. Its more of a long term wish. I'm closing for now.
