Description
Observed in Soas-200903051021.iso and Soas2-200903061846.iso
Restart now on the My Settings panel and Restart on the Home XO panel share the same icon but perform different actions.
Let's clarify the difference. Perhaps, the Restart X icon should have a screen box dressing.
This is probably better than words and would be sufficient to hint of a difference.

I guess for me the optimization succeeded in distinguishing the two actions so that the result is no longer the same (at least with the current implementations). One is a lot quicker, so I don't want to make the 'mistake' of rebooting when I want to reset the X session.
So the benefit is mainly time saving (which may be most useful during limited class times), but also the satisfaction that I haven't been surprised by a signal with different results.
Its clearly not an urgent need, but something nice, if justified, to add to a reliable interface.
Thanks for considering!

In the CP - the action is logout. Actually we have an icon for that, which we use as well in the XO menu.

I mark it 0.84 - if we change it for 0.84 we should change it quickly because of documentation efforts.

<erikos> tomeu: can you open the CP and change your name?
<erikos> tomeu: it has the restart icon and talks about restart in the text as well
<tomeu> erikos: but the action is logout, right?
<erikos> tomeu: correct
<erikos> tomeu: if we change the icon now
<erikos> tomeu: we have a mismatch between icon and text
<tomeu> ok, so I wouldn't change anything
<tomeu> as eben said, the difference is not so big
<erikos> ok - that was my thinking too

do we have a concrete design to implement?

Replying to tomeu:
do we have a concrete design to implement?
No. And we have a bunch of potential item removals from the current home palette for 0.86, so perhaps let the dust settle and revisit in later effort.

No design, was intentional, and it doesn't seem all that critical.
I think that was a conscious decision, though we can revisit it. The question to be asking is what type of expectations we set for the user. Does it matter that, technically, these actions aren't the same?
When the control panel was built we chose not to differentiate, since in both cases userspace goes away completely, which means that with respect to a Sugar "session" the result is the same: unsaved changes are lost, activities get closed, collaboration is severed, etc. Additionally, we realized that some actions would require a hard restart and some an X restart, and simplified to a single dialog.
From another angle, restarting X could be seen as an optimization of sorts which makes the restart take less time; I think that at one stage everything required a true reboot.
