Description

Semantic Mediawiki is a useful extension that will enable us to make useful auto-queried pages on our wiki. See http://wiki.laptop.org/index.php?title=Community_testing_meetings&action=edit&section=3 and http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Community_testing_meetings for an example of what a query wikisyntax and display might be.

  • Owner changed from bernie to mchua
  • Status changed from new to assigned

What are our specific use cases for it?

Semantic mediawiki is a non-trivial addition which carries a lot of overhead with it, so we'd better have a good enough justification.

  • Resolution set to notabug
  • Status changed from assigned to closed

I no longer think we need SMW (at this time), but the original rationale was to:

  • enable the creation of deployment-status pages (such as http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Deployments) - we may want something like this in the future, but right now it's a minor enough edge case that it doesn't warrant the overhead, imo
  • enable test case and report management to be done directly on the wiki (as in http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Test_cases_8.2.0), which is a moot point now that testing is something SL's BugSquad has specifically said it will not do.

I'm leaving this note in for historical reasons, but resolving the ticket as notabug since the original reasoning for opening it has since been shown to be not quite as valid as I'd previously thought.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
