Bug Status: Unconfirmed

Description

This is a design component that was never implemented: a global flag to cause all character rendering to appear in uppercase. The request for this feature was voiced on the Sur list today, but it has been requested numerous times in the past as well (See http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/2447).

Just to confirm, this should be for the _output_ display of text, and not forcing input to uppercase? All output should be displayed in uppercase when this option is set (needs to be aware of locale fonts/accents and characters).

Yes. Just output. Ideally across the entire system, but at a minimum, Read, Write, and Browse.

  • Milestone changed from 0.86 to 0.88

I dropped the ball on this one. It is probably a small change, but would require extensive testing. Not going to happen for 0.86

  • Milestone changed from 0.88 to 0.90

Alas, it is not going to happen in 0.88 either...

  • Milestone changed from 0.90 to 1.0

Is this something deployments still desire?

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

OLPC AU has a better solution: a keyboard and font designed to map to what kids learn in school. Not sure we can scale that solution, but mapping to upper case seems a less than optimal work-around.
