The pointer cursor is much much smaller than the frankly gigantic "Your Journal is empty", and so attention is drawn to the message and associated icon. It remains misleading and should not be shown unless the journal is actually empty.

Hi,
We found out that the bug still exists in the most recent version of Sugar labs. We were able to reproduce the bug using most recent version of sugar-build. Please assign us this bug and we will look into the source code to fix the issue.
Thanks!

Confirmed on Sugar 0.110.
Thanks for testing. We don't typically assign bugs. If you have a fix, please post a pull request on github, thanks.
The mouse courser is in loading state during this load.
On fedora rawhide (23 or maybe 24) the load is incremental - with the journal loading the new objects item by item.
