#4874 new defect

Browse cannot open pdf files over https

Reported by: plarke Owned by:
Priority: Unspecified by Maintainer Milestone: Unspecified
Component: Browse Version: Unspecified
Severity: Unspecified Keywords:
Cc: godiard Distribution/OS: Unspecified
Bug Status: Unconfirmed

Description (last modified by plarke)

Over http everything seems to work fine. Over https, a new tab is opened completely grey, and all Browse buttons become unresponsive. I am using Sugar 1.06, Browse 157.2, arch linux, and an intel i5 cpu.

(over ftp, I get a message saying this web page could not be loaded, but that might be for another bug report.)

Example files that cause a freeze:
https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
https://www.adobe.com/enterprise/accessibility/pdfs/acro6_pg_ue.pdf

Browse can handle PDF files. Other not supported files are downloaded. Can you describe the environment where you see the problem? Please detail Browse version, Sugar version and if possible hardware.

If you have the url to the pdf who make Browse crash, add it to this ticket.

Oh, I see. I really should have tested this more thoroghly. It freezes with some pdf files(like this one), but not others(like this one). I tested a few files and could'nt find any definite pattern to which work and which don't.

I'm on Sugar 1.06, Browse 157.2, arch linux, and an intel i5 cpu.

Hi plarke,
Your patch looks like a valid fix. Solve the freeze problem described in the comments?
Thanks!
