Measure stops measuring after switching activities and returning

Reported by: carrott Owned by: walter
Priority: Unspecified by Maintainer Milestone: Unspecified
Component: Measure Version: Unspecified
Severity: Unspecified Keywords:
Cc: Distribution/OS: OLPC
Bug Status: Unconfirmed

Description

Unfortunately I don't have a reliable steps to reproduce for this. Sometimes, when I return to measure after using another activity, there is no signal displayed.

This sequence or a variation on it triggers the bug perhaps 30% of the time on Measure 44 on 13.1.0 build 20 on XO-4 and XO-1.75:

Reboot laptop
Start Measure
Select ukulele tuning mode
Adjust to 50Hz/division
Observe signal
Return to activity ring
Observe microphone light does not go out and laptop is sluggish (I guess this is a separate bug)
Start Browse
Observe microphone light goes out
Use Browse for a while including allowing the laptop to suspend
Return to Measure
Repeat the previous two steps until you observe the microphone light illuminates but no signal is displayed by measure

/me wonders if this is somehow related to #4356 ?

#4356 is this ticket, so I guess it is related. Also, I mention suspend-resume in the steps to reproduce, but on XO-4 at least, it is reproducible without suspend-resume.

While this is somewhat difficult to reproduce, it wasn't possible to tune a ukuele by checking which note goes on which string after tuning each string without triggering the bug (ie, I tried twice to do this and gave up. I had to memorize rather than trying to switch back and forth). Hence I think this is actually quite severe for the utility of measure.

Sorry. I meant #4353. And perhaps more relevant, OLPC #12410. In any case, I will investigate.

As an aside, would it be useful to add a visual mapping of strings to notes in the Measure activity itself?

OLPC #12410 looks interesting, i didn't see a correlation with time, sometimes it happened very quickly other times it took a little while.

A visual mapping of strings to notes would be useful. Perhaps something as simple as numbering the lines on the display (but then you have to wonder if the top or bottom is number one).
