Worth a quick note that there are some other 'key' like events triggering search focus. The power button is one that could do with ignoring (causes the OSK to momentarily pop up before the sleep/shutdown screen). The hardware cursor buttons on the display bezel also trigger the search, but you can argue these allow valid editing (cursor movement) of the search field.

Pressing Alt does not cause the Home view search field to get focused and show a cursor icon in OLPC 13.1.0 os8.
