#2818 new defect
New/upgraded activities are added to Favourites View
Reported by: | sridhar | Owned by: | |

Priority: | Normal | Milestone: | Unspecified |
Component: | Sugar | Version: | 0.98.x |
Severity: | Unspecified | Keywords: | design, dx3 |

Bug Status: | New |
Description
If activities are upgraded or installed (including via Software Update), their launchers are automatically added to the Favourites View. This is undesirable because:
- it means that the Favourites View is not reflecting what has been defined or what the user has explicitly chosen as a favourite
- as activities are added/upgraded over time, the Favourites View will become cluttered
We would prefer it so that new activities are not added to the Favourites View. Alternatively, only new activities should be added to the Favourites View.

Yes I agree with Walter, installing a new activity should make it a favorite so it is immediately visible in the default home view for the user, while updates should honour an activities previous favoured/unfavoured state.

Yes, that sounds like the best approach to solving my problem.
comment:4 Changed 11 years ago by m_anish
- Cc ajay_garg m_anish added
- Keywords dx3 added
The current decision (New activities added by default to favorites view, updated activities maintain their favorite status) is targeted to be included in dx3.
Adding relevant cc and keywords. Since there is already consensus on this, this should be easy to go upstream.

Hi, I am new to sugar labs would like to work on this bug. I have already set-up my sugar build environment. Can you please help me get started ?

Have you setup the developer environment? See developer.sugarlabs.org for details.
I would argue that upgrades should not impact an activity's status vis-a-vis Favorites View. If it was a favorite, it should remain a favorite and vice versa. (I have seen upgrades cause an activity to lose its favorite status.) However -- as you say at the end of the ticket -- I also agree that new activities be automatically tagged as Favortites. Not to give the user direct feedback that the install has been successful by placing it in the Favorite View leads to unnecessary confusion.
