While I suppose there is nothing wrong with adding yet another control to tweak, I would argue that we do not want to disable this "feature". Sure, it is one more thing to learn, but it serves two important purposes: (1) it helps to disambiguate items in the Journal (granted we could probably automate this in some way in the future); and (2) it presents an opportunity to write and reflect upon what you are doing. I had been trying to establish a workflow in the classroom where the students spend a few minutes reflecting on what they did at the end of each class. This is where/how they do so. It is an important aspect of the pedagogy and while, as Tomeu points out, it is easy to ignore, at the same time, it is easy to establish a habit of writing with the students.

That said, some "system" activities probably should override the prompt. No need to invoke it with Log, for example. But whereas these sorts of activities aren't typically used in the classroom, it is a low priority to disable.

  • Keywords GPA added

This dialog was annoying in some cases at GPA.

See: I watched a kid do this by opening the frame, clicking on the activity, waiting for the drop down, choosing stop from that, then clicking the check mark in the Name This Journal entry popup.

It does help to name the things to find them later in the journal. Just not sure how to do that without requiring names on things you don't really want to find later.

Thanks,

Greg S

  • Milestone changed from 0.88 to 0.90

too late for 0.88, if a deployer really needs it, maybe can land in 0.88.x after 0.88.1 :/

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

I think this has been discussed a lot on the mailing list. Hopefully we are happy with the current behavior. Something to discuss with design before opening bugs anyway.
