Description

Soas2-200904231400.iso Snapshot uses a different Linux kernel than the current boot CD, making it difficult to test the snapshot properly on older PCs that cannot boot directly from the USB drive.

I've created a script allowing the user to create his own boot helper from a snapshot. That way, one can always get the latest kernel on the boot helper.

I'm thinking of getting this automatically done at the image creation, so that we could host the resulting helper .iso files on our server, but that's more long-term, as the snapshots are just intended for testing and we'll have new boot helpers for the big releases.

So here's the script: http://people.sugarlabs.org/sdz/boot-helper-creator.sh

You'll need to be root to run it and can call it the following way:

[root@localhost sebastian]# ./boot-cd-creator.sh Soas2-200905031329.iso

The script has been pushed to our GIT repo and is now the recommended way of creating boot helpers for snapshots. For the releases, we'll obviously create and host the boot helpers, too. Closing this.
