coloring artifacts in Write if using italic text (with non-default color)

Description

Selecting italic text (with non-default color) causes coloring artifacts:
on selection, the outermost part of the text will still appear in original color instead of selection color (gray/black)
on deselection, the outermost part of the text will appear in default color (black/white) instead of chosen color

looks like this is true as well in abiword - someone shoul check with the abiword devs.

checking in abiword 2.8.6-0ubuntu1, this issue is not present.(althoug the upstream bug is untuched since filled).
